Mental Health Workshop: Join us Tuesday, December 3rd at 17, and learn more about the psychology behind the transformative power of rhythm and movement!
What to Expect:
- Engaging Presentation: Learn about the psychological mechanisms behind rhythm and movement, and how they influence our mood and energy.
- Hands-On Experience: Practice vibrant rhythms together and feel their empowering effects firsthand.
Why Rhythm Matters:
Music has profound effects on our emotional wellbeing, primarily by influencing our physiological state. Music grounded in drumming – like African Dance rhythms – is particularly powerful for:
- Boosting mood
- Relieving tension
- Empowering us to cope
This session combines research-based insights with practical exercises, allowing you to experience the benefits yourself through vibrant rhythms and dynamic movements.
No prior knowledge or dance experience is required – just listen to the presentation, bring an open mind and embrace the music in your own way!
Notice: It can be practical to wear comfortable clothes for movement, and even maybe bring dry clothes in case you feel like changing after.
Hosts of the evening
The evening will be hosted Elena Bermejo-Martins, researcher and clinical psychotherapist in training, and our special guest: Akinyi Nyawade, Kenyan dancer and performance coach.
