Shinrin-Yoku : “bathing” in the forest atmosphere, or taking in the forest through our senses.
This Tuesday, June 18, the English Speaking Cafe will meet outdoors for some “recharging” amongst trees and good friends!
NOTE:
We will meet in front of the SMK at 17:00 and make our way to Østre Anlæg park, which is right behind the SMK
Though initially termed “forest bathing” in Japan where the term originates, the measurable benefits of mindfully being in nature can be gained even in city parks, such as the one we will meet in.
Studies suggest a multitude of benefits from engaging in this practice:
reduced scores for anxiety, depression, anger, fatigue, and confusion, and increases the score for vigor, showing preventative effects on depression.
- improved sleep
- increased activity of parasympathetic nerves and reduced activity of sympathetic nerves to stabilize the balance of the autonomic nervous system
- reduced stress hormones, contributing to stress management
- reduced blood pressure and heart rate showing preventative effects on hypertension and heart disease
- suggested preventative effects on cancers.
PROGRAM:
We will meet at the base of the steps of the SMK at 17:00 and walk to the park together. We will form a circle and engage in a short mindfulness exercise, after which we will proceed to walk in silence in the park.
We will gather again, journal / draw, and end with a circle of reflections.
Although the weather looks promising, it is Copenhagen, so please come prepared with whatever you will need to be comfortable in case of light rain.
What to bring:
Journal
Pen / pencil
Rain coat / Poncho / umbrella
Comfortable shoes
Something to sit on if you do not like sitting directly on the ground
Water / snack as needed
The event will be hosted by Aglaia Michelaki, Clinical Psychotherapist and Certified Mindfulness Instructor (MBSR).
Please feel free to call Aglaia at 31311669 or Pedro at 91978415

Our focus centres on personal development, engaging in enriching conversations, and finding pathways through personal experiences of stress, anxiety or depression and similar states of mind.
You will find us in our social café, in the heart of Copenhagen, Café Blom, Studiestræde 5, providing a supportive space for open dialogue and shared experiences. We invite everyone to join us in this journey of growth and connection through conversation.
